About Ray Cole

A sample of hand-painted silk floated into the room and artist Ray Cole realized what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. Twenty five years and thousands of clients later, many of them celebrities, Cole has created his own unique style and technique for painting on silk.

Blytheville, Arkansas native Ray Cole studied at the University of New Orleans. After graduating from the University, Ray decided to open his own boutique. In 1980, his clothing became so highly regarded that he was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts for clothing design. In the fall of 2001, Ray was featured in a major show in Berlin, Germany along with designers from Germany, Japan, and Italy.

Using silk as his canvas, Ray Cole uses French dyes to paint distinctive images and designs. Once painted, accents and a border are added using latex rubber painted with colored rice powders – giving the tapestries weight and extraordinary texture.
